Heavy Duty Mechanic ~ Commercial Transport Mechanic

Working as part of the Central Wrench Team you will be responsible for a variety of duties relating to the repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles including:

  • Diagnosis/inspection: communicating with customers and/or road testing, performing related diagnostic testing (computerized & manual), detailing all related issues
  • Technical repairs: perform all related vehicle repairs as required ensuring excellence in workmanship and quality.
  • Customer Service: liaise with customers regarding work performed
  • Shop Related: general housekeeping, inspection of shop supplies, assisting in other areas as needed.

Hydrovac Operator
In this position you will operate and drive a Hydrovac truck to assigned job sites to excavate, load, dig, break rocks or debris, dirt, or other materials to locate underground utilities, potholing, trenching, etc. The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner.
Qualifications required:
  • Must have a minimum Class 1 or 3 with airbrake endorsement, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Experience in a labour-intensive position and be willing and able to work outside in all types of weather conditions year round.
  • Two years of experience operating a vac truck is preferred.
  • Communicate effectively, professionally and demonstrate a strong customer service focus in all interactions.
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and as the need arises perform minor repairs to equipment. Mechanical inclination is an asset.
  • Use technology (iPad) for field ticketing and time. Properly document all customer paperwork as required.
  • Previous hydrovac, trucking, vacuum truck or other related industrial experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently with other team’s in a safety focused environment.

Human Resources Generalist
Reporting to the VP of Finance and Administration, the Generalist is responsible for all aspects of human resources. You are recommending, advising, creating and administering human resources best practices, services and programs. This role has no direct reports and is suitable for a strong generalist who is accustomed to running a one-person Human Resources function.
What you’ll be doing
Your Human Resources duties will include supporting management and supervisors in your portfolio of seven companies as well as working on assigned special projects such as training and development, ensuring COR requirements are being met or updating the company Web Site. You are always looking for a better way to support the team as you represent Human Resources. You are developing and managing processes including company policies and procedures.
Based on priorities, you will plan and execute tasks and initiatives related work for seven companies that are within the Central Utility Services umbrella. Your focus will be on full cycle recruitment – all companies, full benefits administration including working with insurance broker – all companies, safety support – all companies and payroll support and administration when necessary and employment/labor standards practices.

You are passionate about people and the business bottom line. You are known as someone who is confident and assertive, yet diplomatic. You’re comfortable with both management and colleagues. Your experience and preference are to work as a one-person department and a “jack-of-all-trades” within the human resources portfolio.
Qualifications
· A CPHR designation ~ consideration will also be given to a candidate who is actively pursuing this designation
· Preference would be given to someone with a CPA designation or experience completing a payroll – full cycle
· Five (5) years as a one-person HR department
· Experience working in both unionized and nonunionized environment
· Understanding of collective agreements including interpretation and working with unions
· Ability to work within employment standards and be able to navigate and advise supervisors and managers on best practices
· Strong organizational and critical thinking
· Ability to act as a communication advisor when required
· Attention to detail and good judgement

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely operate bucket trucks and/or other types of person-lifts
  • Pole placing, transfer and removal experience
  • Load and unload equipment and cable trailers
  • Install and repair aerial and underground telecommunication lines
  • Change and install anchors
  • Hang strand and fibre/cable via line truck or via pole climbing

Qualifications required

· Preference will be given to experienced candidates with telecommunication experience

· Ability to climb utility poles using climbing gear and rigging

– Experience operating and performing work in a bucket truck and/or other types of person-lifts

· Must be comfortable working at heights and outdoors in all weather conditions

· Proficient in new build and pole transfers; knowledge in building strand, lashing, pole transfers & grounding

· Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders’ needs, and identify solutions

· Must have a class 3 valid driver’s license, class 1 is preferred

· Ability to travel as much as required within the Province of BC
